Working in a care home can be a very rewarding job as you help to care and provide assistance to those whom are no longer as independent as they once were.

Choosing caring as a career, you can become a carer if you enjoy helping others and have a calm and caring nature. You will be required to pass certain training, and have a clear criminal record. Once you begin working you will easily adapt to your care homes surrounding and begin to follow the routine set. Once you have proved you are capable of the job, you could take up different roles, such as being a team leader.

Some patients require medication; you will undertake an oral drug administration competency which allows you to administer prescribed medication to the patient. Other roles required are first aid, and fire safety, these are all extra courses that you could obtain to progress to a promotion within your role as a carer.
