It’s no secret that there’s been many different stories circulating in the media regarding poor quality care in care homes. It may not be obvious to spot when you’re visiting your relative though, so it’s important to observe the environment and the employees carefully.

You should always listen to what your relatives have to say, and anything they say should be improved, should be voiced to the care home manager. As a visitor, you have a fresh perspective, and you should always do all you can to keep your mum, dad, or grandparent happy and safe.

It can also be good to strike up relationships with senior members of staff, and if it’s a good care home, they’ll be taking your advice on board, and making the environment better for their residents.
