Even if your parent or grandparent is living out their final years in a care home, there’s still an important role to play in their wellbeing. It’s your duty to learn what they need on a daily basis, and it’s up to you to make sure the tasks get done. You will have to make sure carers are working as they should, and of course you may need to take responsibility for some tasks on a daily or weekly basis.
As family, it’s important to spend time together and do what you can to make sure they’re happy, so communication is key. No care worker will know your relative as well as you, and that’s why you will always have an important role to play. If you have other siblings, you may want to create a family rota whereby your parent or grandparent always has a visit from one relative a day.
