Care homes are a mirror to us in many ways. They show us a stark reality from which we cannot run. We can hide the signs of ageing through cosmetic procedures but we can’t stop ageing.

Think about the famous Welsh poet W.H. Davies as he said:

‘What is this life full of care, there is no time to stand and stare’.

One day the old age will dawn upon us. We’ll be more forgetful, less independent, possibly incapable in some situations and expectant that someone will come and share some time with us. So how can we expect others to care for us if we never did? Although, people in care homes are old and dependent, you can bring joy to people’s lives and that’s very rewarding. These are the people who have lived their whole life so you can also pick up pearls of wisdom from them.
