Did you know that you could get £62.10 a week if you care for someone at least 35 hours a week? You don’t have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for. It may not sound like a lot of money, but if you’re earning less than £110 a week after tax, you can be eligible for Carer’s allowance. It is worth noting though, that other benefits can be reduced. For example, if you get you get Working Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit, you’ll need to tell the taxman about your Carer’s Allowance claim. There’s a calculator on the Gov.uk website and it allows you too see whether other benefits will be affected. If you’re not claiming benefits though, and you’re caring for someone more than 35 hours a week, it’s worth filing for your Carer’s Allowance claim.
